Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) delivers Council’s asset management, planning, design, construction, maintenance and transport operations. Within ISG, Public Space Operations maintains Brisbane’s parks, roadside corridors and community spaces. About the role  

As a Senior Gardener, you will be part of a hands‑on crew responsible for maintaining and developing Brisbane’s premiere botanic collection. This role suits someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in quality workmanship and values being part of a supportive operational team. 

You will work closely with your Team Leader and the Technical team including the Curator to deliver a variety of horticultural, botanic collection management and general maintenance activities that keep Brisbane’s greenspaces healthy, safe and great to use. You will also plan, coordinate, plant out and maintain garden beds, annual beds and turfed areas using appropriate tools, machinery and techniques to relevant design plans, established work practices and recognised horticultural standards.   

As a Senior Gardener you will also train and mentor relieving staff in all aspects of the Senior Gardener’s role as required, to ensure a consistently high level of service is provided in a safe environment. 

As Senior Gardener Mt Coot-tha you will: 

• have demonstrated ability and experience in horticultural techniques and the maintenance and horticultural management of specialised garden displays 
• experience using and conducting basic maintenance on horticultural machinery and tools 
• experience in preparing and applying horticultural chemicals including a current spray licence. 
• sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures and experience applying these in the workplace 
• sound written and verbal communication skills and willingness to work in partnership with your team and leadership, to meet agreed performance standards and mutual expectations 
• have a customer service focus and maintain a high degree of professionalism in this public facing role.  

Mandatory requirements: 

• C Class driver licence  
• Certificate III Parks and Gardens (AHC31016) or equivalent trade certificate
