Booroongen Djugun Limited (BDL) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation. BDL was founded in consultation with traditional Elders and designed to reflect the emotional, spiritual, and physical needs connected with the traditions and customs of Aboriginal people. BDL continues to operate in alignment with these core foundations to this day providing cultural safe services and employment for all Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Residents, Staff, Clients, and Community.

Primary Purpose

The provision of leisure and recreational activities to enhance the cultural, psychological, spiritual, social and emotional wellbeing of residents at Booroongen Djugun Aged Care Facility

Key responsibilities and duties

·       Determine each resident’s psychological, spiritual, social, and emotional needs and any barriers to participation in leisure and recreational pursuits in accordance with Booroongen Djugun Aged Care Facility’s policy and protocols.

·       Develop and display a monthly ‘Activities Program’ that reflects the abilities and preferences of residents.

·       Develop, in conjunction with Case Coordinators, individualised activities programs to address special physiological and/or psychological needs of residents.

·       Facilitate opportunities for residents’ continued involvement in the wider community.

·       Maintain documentation, in accordance with Booroongen Djugun Aged Care Facility’s policy, to evaluate residents’ participation in leisure and recreational activities and on-going needs and abilities.

·       Observe, identify, and report to a registered nurse variations in residents’ abilities and/or condition.

·       Participate in case conferences in accordance with Booroongen Djugun Aged Care Facility protocol.

·       Liaise with family/person responsible/carers and other members of the health care team to facilitate the achievement of residents’ leisure and recreational pursuits.

·       Facilitate Resident/Relative Meetings.

·       Manage residents’ ‘Amenity Funds Records’ in accordance with Booroongen Djugun Aged Care Facility’s policy and protocol.

·       Produce a monthly newsletter.

·       Follow directions and work collaboratively with Recreation Activities Lead.

·       Assist with transportation of residents to external appointments as required.

·       Have clear understanding of SIRS and RIs and obligations to report

·       Report and refer all complaints following the feedback and complaints Management and resolution System

·       Report and refer all incidents following the incident management system

Core Competencies/Requirements/Experience

·       Certificate III or IV in Aged Care or equivalent (desirable)

·       Effective interpersonal and communication skills

·       Effective teamwork skills

·       Effective time management and organisational skills

·        

·       Imitative skills

·       Computer literacy skills

·       Ability to work confidentially in a sensitive environment

·       Ability to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities suitable for older people

·       Ability to adapt to the changing needs of older people

·       Understanding of the ageing process and caring for older people

·       Understanding of the principles of continuous quality improvement

·       Understanding of relevant Aged Care Accreditation Standards

 

 

Outcomes and Deliverables

·       Residents are supported to achieve lifestyle goals and lifestyle care plan is reviewed every 3 months.

·       Residents provide positive feedback and suggestions are implemented in a timely manner.

·       The Cultural, psychological, spiritual, social and emotional wellbeing of residents is fulfilled.

·       Acknowledge and maintain residents’ rights, privacy, and confidentiality in accordance with the Charter of Residents’ Rights.

·       Work according to Booroongen Djugun Aged Care Facility’s policies, protocols, and procedures.

·       Contribute to continuous improvement and the achievement of the Aged Care Accreditation Standards.

WHS Responsibilities

Familiarisation and Compliance with and BDL general Policies and all BDL Work Health and Safety Policies

 

Responsibilities of all workers:

  • Be familiar with and ensure compliance with the WHS Act 2011 and Regulation 2011
  • Co-operate with WHS policies and procedures to ensure your own health and safety and that of others within the workplace
  • Attend all training sessions as required
  • Do not interfere or misuse equipment provided for the health, safety and welfare of persons at work
