The Opportunity

To support our ongoing growth, we are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our geotechnical team on a full-time basis based in Perth.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • supporting the growth of the BGER business by working on a wide variety of projects and a range of tasks
  • Providing technical advice on complex geotechnical issues to clients and internal stakeholders;
  • selling, securing and delivering geotechnical inputs to clients, including strategy and concept studies, site investigation, geotechnical design, construction supervision, operational requirements and client advice;
  • Reviewing geotechnical design and reporting tasks completed by others;
  • pricing, programming and managing the geotechnical aspects of small to large projects. Work may include periods on site;
  • delivering high quality technical work and maintaining high quality reporting standards;
  • coaching and mentoring junior members of the team;
  • building and sustaining strong and diverse internal and external client relationships.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in civil engineering, as well as 12+ years relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering within a consulting firm or similar
  • Be well advanced in applying for or having achieved chartered engineer status, or equivalent.
  • A strong personal commitment to Health and Safety in geotechnical projects and adherence to HSE procedures;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (essential).
  • Broad experience of geotechnical aspects of a wide range of civil and structural engineering projects.
  • Ability to plan, execute, document, and manage projects.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate the integration of geotechnical designs with other disciplines.
  • Client interfacing, with the ability to champion the BGER value proposition to business.
  • You will understand specialist geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, SlopeW, Openground and the Rocscience suite. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of CAD, GIS, and other geotechnical software would be an advantage.
  • You will be proficient in the review of geotechnical designs and reports and take final responsibility for technical standards and project outcomes.
  • Routinely support others with technical development and complex problem solving.
