Be part of an organisation that is taking the lead in providing evidence-based programs and supporting vulnerable young people and children.

For over 140 years, Berry Street has adapted to a changing world, and we will continue to adapt to achieve our purpose. We believe children, young people and families should be safe, thriving and hopeful. Our Vision for 2026: Together we will courageously change lives and reimagine service systems.

The Opportunity

The Early Learning is Fun (ELF) program is delivered by Berry Street as an early intervention program providing a differentiated response to children and families in the local government area of Whittlesea. The service provides a safe therapeutic playgroup environment for primary caregivers and their vulnerable children who do not experience optimal social, emotional and learning experiences and environments during their early years both at home and in community settings. These children are therefore not as ready to learn when they enter primary school. Additionally, those families with the greatest need are least likely to be able to access early education and care services/support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the Berry Street ELF program
  • Establish and support ELF Play and Learn Groups and other early years initiatives for vulnerable families and children
  • Develop and implement a promotion and advocacy strategy to sustain and replicate ELF as an early learning program in response to the needs of vulnerable children
  • Provide support, practice leadership and knowledge exchange between Berry Street early years initiatives in the Northern Region

  • A passion for early childhood development including health, education and well being
  • A thorough understanding of the indicators of family violence, child abuse and neglect
  • Experience managing and leading early learning or family support programs
  • Experience mentoring and coaching other staff members
  • A tertiary qualification within social work or a related discipline
  • Knowledge and understanding of State and Federal Government policies and programs of direct relevance to vulnerable families, young children and children’s development is also desirable
