The Berry Street School is a specialist independent secondary school with campuses in Ballarat, Morwell, Narre Warren, and Shepparton. We work with students who have experienced complex trauma and are at risk of disengaging from education.

We offer:

  • Years 7–10: Adapted Victorian Curriculum

The Classroom Teacher plays a vital role in delivering high-quality education and supporting the wellbeing of students at the Berry Street School. This role involves planning and teaching an engaging curriculum, building positive relationships with students, and supporting their academic and social-emotional development through trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches.

  • Base Salary $80k -$119k pa (Dependent on experience) + Super & Salary Packaging

Morwell is a growing township in the Latrobe Valley area of Gippsland (approximately 152km South East of Melbourne)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, plan and teach curriculum tailored to students’ individual needs.
  • Support students’ academic growth by monitoring outcomes and providing timely feedback.
  • Implement the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) in classrooms to promote engagement and wellbeing.
  • Create and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Ready To Learn Plans for students.
  • Use data and evidence-based strategies to inform planning, teaching and assessment.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families and care teams to support learning.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment aligned with the school’s vision of thrive, achieve, belong.
  • Actively contribute to staff collaboration, professional learning and continuous improvement.

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (or equivalent qualification suitable for teaching).
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and science of learning teaching strategies.
  • Capacity to use positive, trauma-informed strategies to create safe and inclusive learning environments.
  • Experience developing engaging curriculum tailored to diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to assess, monitor and report on student progress using data-informed approaches.
  • Strong communication skills with students, families and staff.
  • Commitment to Berry Street’s values, child safety, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable:

  • Special Education qualification.
  • Experience delivering literacy and numeracy interventions.
  • Experience and/or training with the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM).
  • Willingness to teach an elective (Arts, Health & Wellbeing, PE, or Technologies).
