CIRC Education Specialist

Berry Street Yooralla is seeking a CIRC Education Specialist to support children and young people in residential care to reconnect with education, learning and school communities.

• Preston location, Wurundjeri Country
• Part time 4 days Fixed Term (12 month) role
• $83 - 98k pa + Super & Salary Packaging (pro rata)

The Opportunity

This role sits within Berry Street Education Services and provides specialist education support to young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted schooling and complex life circumstances. You will work closely with students, schools, residential care teams, Child Protection, DFFH, Youth Justice, DET, alternative education providers and other community service organisations to support young people back into meaningful learning pathways.

This is a mobile and relationship-focused role, requiring flexibility, creativity and a trauma-informed approach. You will work across schools, residential care homes, community settings, the office and remotely, depending on the needs of the young person and their care team.

About the Role

As a CIRC Education Specialist, you will advocate for young people and support their education needs through outreach, care team collaboration, enrolment support, education planning and tailored learning strategies.

You will:

• Build rapport with young people in residential care and support them to reconnect with learning.
• Advocate for students’ education needs in care team meetings and school-based discussions.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, principals, Child Protection, DFFH, residential care staff and other professionals.
• Support enrolment processes, including school tours, meetings, paperwork and administration.
• Develop, review and support Individual Education Plans.
• Provide trauma-informed education strategies to schools, homes and care teams.
• Support safe and flexible learning environments for students with complex needs.
• Maintain accurate case notes, progress updates, reports and student records.
• Travel across the designated region to meet with students, schools and care teams.

About You

You are a confident, self-motivated and compassionate professional with experience supporting young people who may have complex needs, challenging behaviours or barriers to education.

You will bring:

• Experience working with high-risk young people of school age or marginalised communities.
• A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and the impact of trauma on learning.
• The ability to engage and support a diverse range of students with complex needs and behaviours.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and engage stakeholders.
• Knowledge of education systems, school practice and student support resources.
• Strong organisation, time management, record keeping and self-management skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work flexibly across different environments.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships with schools, residential care teams and community partners.
• A Bachelor-level qualification in Education, Youth Work, Social Science or a related field.
