About the Role:

The Grounds & Maintenance Assistant (Handyperson) is responsible for undertaking a broad range of maintenance, repair and groundskeeping activities to ensure buildings, infrastructure, equipment and outdoor environments are maintained to a high standard of safety, presentation and compliance.

The role contributes to organisational effectiveness through preventative maintenance, timely response to maintenance requests, support of essential services and contractor activities, and the promotion of a safe and welcoming environment in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational policies and best practice standards.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and prioritise work effectively in an environment with competing demands and changing priorities.
  • Experience undertaking general maintenance, repair and handyperson tasks across buildings, grounds and equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation, standards and safe work practices relevant to the role, including:
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
  • Hazardous Chemicals and Dangerous Goods
  • Manual Handling
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Essential Services and Building Compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools and maintenance and gardening equipment.
  • Ability to identify maintenance issues, troubleshoot problems and implement practical solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with residents, patients, staff, contractors and members of the public from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, reliability and sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing a safe, well-maintained and customer-focused environment.
  • Physical capacity to undertake the inherent requirements of the role, including manual handling, lifting, bending, climbing and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
