Who are the Field Solutions team at Bayer Crop Science:

Our Field Solutions team is vital in turning new chemistry and biological assets for seed growth, pest, disease, and weed control into solutions for healthier, higher yielding crops to benefit our customers and the environment across Australia and New Zealand. We are responsible for delivering the biological dossier and developing the technical recommendations supporting the registration of new products and adding new uses to existing products.

The role:

We are looking for a dedicated and self-motivated Field Agronomist to join us in Western Australia, covering the southern region. Ideally you will be located South of Perth around Bunbury or inland.

Focussing applied research and product development, this position will allow you to work outside, managing your own research trials in line with our planned research strategy.

You will demonstrate the ability to understand the bigger picture of conducting long term trial work, focussing on innovative R&D research of a 3-10 year pipeline.

Our trials are diverse, but the portfolio focus will be herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and biologics for Horticulture and Broadacre products.

Playing an essential role in product development, you will collaborate closely other Field Agronomists, Regulatory Managers and the Heads of Agronomist Solutions. As you develop in the role you will also provide technical input within project teams.

Key duties include:

  • Conduct (plan, mark out, sow, spray, assess and report) an agreed field trial program for existing products and potential new innovation.
  • Source suitable trial sites by communicating and seeking approval from growers to gain appropriate access to their land. Locating suitable sites, taking into consideration geographical climate conditions, soil and crop types needed to obtain variety and research output.
  • Analyse, interpret, summarise and communicate findings with impartiality.
  • Become a key technical knowledge expert in broadacre products.
  • Identify and propose new development opportunities based on research and market needs.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical and legal standards during protocol development and research activities.

Does this sound like you?

  • Tertiary qualification in Agricultural Science or equivalent, with a good knowledge of plant protection and chemical modes of action.
  • A passion for agriculture and hands on field trial work.
  • Self-motivation, resourcefulness, flexibility and the ability to work safely and unsupervised in the field for extended periods of time.
  • Good knowledge of how to plan, sow and conduct trials.
  • Experienced or willing to learn how to safety operate machinery such as a boom spray and other small plot trial equipment (e.g., tractor, seeder, etc.).
  • Good knowledge of safe chemical transportation, handling and spraying. A current Agsafe accreditation will need to be completed.
  • Knowledge of the product registration process with APVMA, would be highly desirable.
  • Strong observational and analytical skills, with an ability to accurately collect and input data using programs such as ARM and Excel, to interpret trial results, write scientific trial reports, and to summarise and present data clearly.
