The Credit Assessor role is responsible for the assessment and final decisioning for secured and unsecured Consumer Credit. The objective of this role is to ensure accurate and effective credit decisions are made in a consistent, efficient and timely manner and to deliver excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders. This will be achieved through the adherence to Credit Risk policies and to support and be active in the commitment to live by the Banks values along with involvement and active participation in cultivating a positive credit culture. 

The role will be expected to support the Lending Fulfilment and Retail Compliance team in delivering an exceptional stakeholder experience through effective engagement with all working relationships in a timely and productive manner.

The Credit Assessor will possess and utilise past experiences in delivering credit decisions that support our unique bonded member base and to clearly understand the impacts of those decisions.

An agile approach is required to support the requirement to continually enhance lending decisioning experience by way of critical reviews of processes and procedures that support staff and member outcomes.

We’re looking for an experienced Credit Assessor to join our Lending Fulfilment team and play a key role in assessing and approving consumer lending applications while maintaining strong credit quality and compliance standards.

Your New Role

As a Credit Assessor, you will be responsible for assessing and decisioning secured and unsecured consumer lending applications, including home loans, personal loans and credit cards. You will work closely with our branch network, broker channel and digital sales teams to deliver timely, consistent and high quality credit decisions.

This role requires strong credit judgement, attention to detail and a customer focused mindset, ensuring lending decisions align with policy, regulatory obligations and the Bank’s risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and approve home loan, personal loan and credit card applications within Delegated Lending Authority (DLA)
  • Review lending applications from branch, broker and digital channels
  • Ensure lending decisions align with Credit Policy and Credit Underwriting Standards
  • Meet service level agreements and support positive member outcomes
  • Identify and document appropriate mitigants for applications requiring policy exceptions
  • Support compliance activities, credit quality reviews and audit requirements
  • Provide feedback on lending quality, trends and process improvements
  • Contribute to projects and initiatives that enhance lending efficiency and stakeholder experience
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to deliver exceptional service

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a retail banking credit assessment or underwriting role
  • Experience operating under a Delegated Lending Authority (DLA)
  • Strong understanding of consumer lending, credit risk and responsible lending obligations
  • Demonstrated ability to assess home loans, personal loans and credit cards
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Commitment to delivering quality outcomes within service level timeframes
  • Experience in lending fulfilment or branch lending environments will be highly regarded
