Your Role:
Step into a high impact role where you’ll lead Financial Crime Operations end to end across AML/CTF, fraud & scams, sanctions and transaction monitoring. You’ll set the direction, drive priorities and embed a strong, proactive control culture across the business.
You’ll own operational performance and governance from SLAs and quality to risk appetite alignment, resourcing and delivery. This is a hands on leadership role where your decisions will directly shape outcomes.
As the Senior Manager, Financial Crime Operations you will:
- Lead Financial Crime Operations across AML/CTF, fraud & scams, sanctions and transaction monitoring - setting direction, priorities and a strong control culture.
- Own operational performance and governance including SLAs, quality, risk appetite alignment, resourcing and delivery oversight.
- Drive continuous improvement and control uplift - reviewing end-to-end processes, removing pain points, strengthening controls, and embedding sustainable ways of working.
- Build and coach a high-performing team of a specialists, with clear expectations, capability uplift, and a strong member-first mindset.
- Ensure high-quality case management and investigations (including escalations) with consistent decisioning, evidence standards, and audit-ready documentation.
- Strengthen first-line monitoring effectiveness - optimise rules/thresholds, reduce false positives, improve detection, and implement pragmatic enhancements.
- Lead Line 1 remediation and issue management arising from Line 2 monitoring, Internal Audit or regulatory findings - track actions to closure and prevent recurrence.
- Partner with Enterprise Risk (Line 2) and key stakeholders to operationalise frameworks, improve reporting and insights, and uplift financial crime governance.
About You
You’re an experienced Financial Crime leader who thrives in a hands on and fast paced environment. You bring both strategic oversight and operational depth, comfortable setting direction while staying close to the detail to drive outcomes. You'll bring:
- Strong operational leadership experience in Financial Crime (Line 1), with demonstrated ability to build capability, set priorities and uplift performance in a small, fast-moving environment.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of AML/CTF operations, including CDD/ECDD/OCDD, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and AUSTRAC reporting (e.g., SMRs, TTRs, IFTIs/UARs).
- Proven experience leading fraud and scam investigations, including member contact, loss mitigation/recovery and chargebacks.
- Track record of process improvement and control uplift—designing/embedding procedures, QA, metrics, and sustainable ways of working that improve outcomes and reduce operational risk.
- Strong governance, incident and issue management capability, including remediation delivery from Line 2 monitoring, Internal Audit and/or regulatory findings.
- Highly developed analytical and reporting skills—able to turn operational data into clear insights, trends, and decision-ready reporting for senior stakeholders/committees.
- Confident stakeholder management across Line 2 Risk, Operations, IT/Digital and executives; able to influence, challenge constructively and drive alignment.
- Relevant qualifications desirable (risk/compliance/audit or related) and industry certifications preferred (e.g., ACAMS, ACFE, AFMA).
