Turn People strategy into practical, sustainable outcomes
This is a senior, influential HR leader who brings strong IR judgement and can convert complex People priorities into practical, sustainable outcomes – not a pure program manager and not a conventional functional-leader role
Working closely with the Chief People Officer and People Experience leadership team, you’ll help shape, prioritise and deliver Aurora Energy’s People agenda. You’ll bring clarity and momentum to a portfolio of workforce, transformation, technology and organisational initiatives that support our strategic and operational objectives.
This is a senior individual contributor role with influence across the organisation. You won’t lead a permanent team at appointment. Instead, you’ll lead through expertise, relationships and influence, bringing together the right people and personally driving priority initiatives from concept through implementation, adoption and sustainable business ownership.
About Us
With a focus on innovation and delivering better customer outcomes, there has never been a better time to work in the Tasmanian energy sector with Aurora Energy. Be a part of Tasmania’s energy future and make a strong contribution to the ongoing success of our business.
We work hard to create a workplace that is welcoming and flexible, while balancing the needs of our people, the business and our customers. Our ‘Better Fit’ Program offers hybrid working after a training and/or probationary period to support work-life balance.
Aurora Energy will invest in you with training and education, celebrate your successes through recognition and reward, and provide a range of employee benefits including an electricity discount, generous leave benefits, and support for your health and wellbeing.
We believe that every employee has a role to play in contributing to a positive and supportive workplace culture. Our Aurora Way values have been created by our people, for our people. As an employee, you’ll use these values every day to guide your behaviours and actions. Together we’ll continue to make Aurora Energy a great place to work.
About the Role
You’ll help facilitate annual and quarterly People Experience planning, working with the Chief People Officer and People Experience Leadership team to prioritise and sequence a broad portfolio of work so the team can focus on the right things at the right time. You’ll lead strategic and operational People initiatives from early thinking through to implementation, adoption, benefits realisation and handover, making sure there are clear plans, strong governance, agreed responsibilities and measures of success along the way.
You’ll contribute to the development and implementation of workforce strategies that strengthen organisational capability, performance and future workforce readiness.
Working across the organisation, you’ll lead and support workforce planning, workforce risk analysis, organisational design and workforce transformation that requires a deep understanding of legislative obligations. You’ll partner with leaders to identify opportunities to strengthen organisational effectiveness, workforce capability and employee experience.
Playing a hands-on role in improving the way we work, you’ll lead People systems enhancements, simplifying processes, supporting enterprise bargaining preparation, using people data and insights to guide decision-making. Across it all, you’ll champion curiosity, accountability, collaboration and practical problem-solving, contributing to a constructive and delivery-focused culture.
About You
You’re an experienced senior HR professional who can comfortably move between strategic thinking, complex employee matters and hands-on delivery.
You’ll bring broad senior HR experience across the employee lifecycle, together with strong knowledge of employee and industrial relations, enterprise agreements and Australian employment legislation. You’ll be comfortable working in an industrial environment, providing sound advice on complex workplace matters and supporting enterprise bargaining activities when required.
Just as importantly, you’ll have demonstrated experience leading complex People initiatives and know how to take work from initial thinking and planning through to implementation, adoption and sustainable business ownership.
You’ll bring:
· Broad senior HR generalist experience, with a strong understanding of employee and industrial relations, enterprise agreements, employment legislation and contemporary HR practice. Experience working with enterprise bargaining and complex workplace matters, applying sound judgement to balance people, operational, industrial and compliance considerations
· Demonstrated experience leading strategic and operational People initiatives from planning through implementation, adoption and sustainable ownership
· Strong capability in workforce planning, organisational design, organisational effectiveness or workforce transformation
· Experience prioritising and managing a portfolio of work, including competing demands, capacity, dependencies and delivery risks
· The ability to translate People strategy, legislative requirements and operational needs into practical business solutions
· Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including the ability to establish trusted relationships with senior leaders
· Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare practical advice, implementation plans, business cases and executive-level briefings
· Curiosity about how systems, data, automation and AI-enabled tools can improve People services and decision-making.
Your experience may have been developed through People strategy, transformation, workforce planning, senior business partnering, organisational development or complex program delivery. More important than your current title will be your ability to demonstrate how you have taken complex People priorities, created clarity and delivered sustainable organisational outcomes.
Highly regarded
Experience within energy, utilities, government business enterprises or another regulated environment would be highly regarded as would experience in workforce transformation, operating model change or organisation-wide People system implementation.
A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations, Organisational Psychology or a related discipline is desirable; however, equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
We’re also interested in how you think about the future of work. Practical experience using automation, AI-enabled tools or other digital solutions to improve People processes, reduce manual effort or support better decision-making will be viewed favourably.
Most importantly, you’ll bring curiosity, sound judgement and a genuine ability to build trust. You’ll be comfortable challenging the status quo, simplifying complexity and working collaboratively to deliver outcomes that make a meaningful difference for our people and Aurora Energy.
