The Core Facility Technician II role is to support the coreshack team with core cutting and manual labour. Handles and processes core to the highest standards and required specifications to ensure outstanding data quality. Additionally, the Core Facility Technician II will assist with the day-to-day duties of Exploration and Operations.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- 40 hours per week; 8 hours a day
- $26.09 an hour
Duties
- Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training.
- Picking up drill core from drill sites, open boxes and arrange in order.
- Cut core as per training procedure, checking for QA/QC samples.
- Palletize or dump logged and sampled core boxes.
- Using tools for analysis and data processing (ex. pXRF).
- Inserting and recording of QA/QC standards and blanks. Track sample shipments and turn around times at lab.
- Maintaining samples in correct order.
- Counting, measuring, weighing, and labelling samples as needed.
- Ensuring sampling machinery and tools are clean and in a workable condition, notify supervisor if there are any necessary repairs to be done.
- Reporting any irregular findings with core to Supervisor.
- Organizing and preparing samples as requested.
- Working with Core Facility Supervisor to improve sample processes.
- Assist Geologists with occasional field activities: DDH spotting, location control, mapping & sample collections, etc.
- Operate forklift as per proper training, moving core skids with core or samples and other materials.
- Take part in storing pulps and rejects as required.
- Following Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitoring and ensuring contractors safety.
- Thoroughly proof-reading sample sheet, looking for irregularities and notifying the supervisor if anything needs to be corrected.
- Site clean-up as required.
- General labour work.
- Housekeeping duties.
- Inspecting and managing of a preventative maintenance system.
Requirements
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values.
- Current and Valid Class 5.
- Two or more years of experience as a Core Facility Technician.
- Forklift Training.
- Experience geoteching drill core.
- Experience using a pXRF and data processing.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
