Reporting to the Team Leader – Workforce Australia, the Indigenous Mentor, is responsible for providing guidance, support, and culturally appropriate mentorship to First Nations participants engaged in our programs.

Your work will be crucial in fostering a sense of belonging, cultural pride, and empowering individuals to achieve their goals. You will work closely with both participants and staff to ensure that our services are culturally competent, inclusive, and responsive to the holistic needs of First Nations Australians. Your ability to build rapport, trust and credibility both within your client group and local community networks will be key indicators of success in this role. 

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, values, and practices
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, or community development, particularly within First Nations communities
  • A passion for social justice and empowering First Nations Australians
  • Established connections within Indigenous Community Groups and networks preferred
  • Employment services experience is advantageous

 A valid Police Check and Working with Children Check are mandatory requirements prior to commencement of employment. Successful candidates must set up a myGovID in order to access Government data aligned to role.

About You:

To excel in this role, you will be committed to making a difference through connecting and supporting your First Nations clients into sustainable employment. You will be a confident communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills, bringing experience in coaching, mentoring, and case management within employment services or a related field. Problem-solving and goal-setting abilities are essential, alongside a solid understanding of the local labour market and employment pathways. 

You will demonstrate a genuine interest in all people and their stories. You must be able to balance empathy, dignity, and respect in your daily work with a drive to ensure we achieve positive business outcomes.
