The Role

The Senior Payroll Officer plays a key role in delivering accurate, compliant end‑to‑end payroll services that support our workforce and organisational goals. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders across the People and Payroll teams, as well as external agencies.

You will oversee payroll processing, ensure legislative compliance, and provide guidance and support to junior team members.

The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, experienced in payroll, and brings strong communication skills with a continuous improvement mindset, aligned to Aruma’s values and commitment to inclusion.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Payroll Officer…

  • End‑to‑end payroll processing and compliance.
  • Weekly and fortnightly pay runs, including Riteq processing.
  • New starters, contract changes, and terminations.
  • Superannuation, salary packaging, and SGC payments.
  • Workers Compensation, Parental Leave, and Portable LSL processing.
  • Payroll data integrity, reporting, and complex reconciliations.
  • Respond to payroll enquiries and support stakeholders.
  • Support payroll projects and collaborate with HR and Payroll teams.

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Minimum 3 years’ payroll experience in a large, complex organisation with multiple industrial agreements.
  • At least 1 year of hands‑on experience using Chris21.
  • Strong Excel and advanced computer skills.
  • Experience managing weekly and fortnightly payrolls and multiple pay runs.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian awards, agreements, and Long Service Leave legislation.
  • Experience liaising with ATO, Centrelink, superannuation clearing houses, and related agencies.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to provide timely, high‑quality payroll advice aligned with organisational values.
  • Experience with Time & Attendance systems, month‑end reporting, and year‑end/FBT processes is desirable.
