Who are we looking for?
We are seeking passionate and enthusiastic role models to provide therapeutic mentoring support children and young people under the Guardianship of the Chief Executive, who are considered to be at risk of disengaging from education and community supports. You will support your mentee to achieve their goals and reach their potential by identifying and overcoming barriers to achieve social, emotional, educational and employment outcomes.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Build structured and trusting relationships and offer guidance, support and encouragement to develop confidence and competence in mentees
- Support the development of mentee goal plans, case plans and transition from care plans ensuring integration of the young persons identified cultural needs
- Assist mentees in their participation in education, training and/or employment or volunteering, to achieve success and to reach their full potential
- Support mentees to prepare for their transition from care, improve their independent livings skills to prepare them for adulthood and to promote social and emotional wellbeing and positive connections with their community
- Be culturally sensitive to the needs of mentees at all times
What do you need to bring?
- Safe Environments, Through Their Eyes training certificate
- Responding to Abuse and Neglect certificate
- Proven communication skills to engage and establish rapport with children and young people from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to reflective practice that focuses on strengths and builds capacity of individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to assess information, and collaboratively plan and implement appropriate services to children and young people who have been affected by abuse and/or neglect.
- Qualifications in (or working towards) either Psychology, Community Services, Social Work or similar will be highly regarded
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
