We are seeking compassionate volunteers to join our team as Emergency Assistance Interviewers. In this role, you’ll support South Australians experiencing financial hardship by providing respectful, person-centred interviews and linking people to essential services.
In this role, you will conduct client interviews both over the phone and face-to-face to assess needs and provide emergency assistance. After each appointment, you’ll enter accurate data into our systems, ensuring records are up to date. You will be expected to work with empathy, compassion, and respect in a non-judgemental manner, while contributing to a supportive and welcoming environment for both clients and colleagues.
What you'll do:
- Welcome and respond encouragingly to all customers
- Provide financial and material aid to address the most pressing financial problems and/or explore other ways of resolving issues
- Provide appropriate referral of customers with severe or complex issues or those in unsafe situations
- Review customer eligibility to ensure they are receiving all benefits and concessions that they are entitled; (social security, energy and telephone concessions)
- Provide basic advise on a range of issues such as budgeting and options for housing
- Assess and identify additional issues which the customer may require assistance such as financial counseling, legal aid and refer where appropriate
- Provide assistance in accordance with Emergency Assistance (EA) program guidelines in consultation with the EA Coordinator
- Provide information regarding additional support services and refer where appropriate
- Complete factual, non-judgmental records of the interview, as outlined in EA program guidelines
- Complete data entry in accordance with EA data base guidelines
- Keep abreast of changes to government benefits or legislative changes that relate to the needs of EA customers
- Undertake other duties as requested by the Program Manager / Site Coordinator.
You will have:
- Confidence using a computer to complete data entry.
- Excellent people skills and ability to build rapport.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to weekday mornings (8:30am – 12:30pm).
- A caring and respectful approach, even under pressure.
- Current National Police Clearance
