Assist AnglicareSA provide access to affordable food to individuals and groups in the South Australian community by offering practical assistance and support with the selection of food items, including the sorting and stocking of items in the food store area. Our food rooms are located within our Emergency Assistance centres across metropolitan Adelaide (Adelaide CBD, Christies Beach and Elizabeth) supporting people experiencing vulnerability.

Duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with bagging food items into appropriate item-sized quantities
  • Assist with unloading goods received, general deliveries and transferring them to the Food Room
  • Support customers with recipe suggestions with a strong focus on nutritional meal
  • Assist in the appropriate storing of all food items received and maintaining the food distribution area clean and tidy
  • Engage respectfully and kindly with all program or site customers, and other team members.
  • Maintain a high level of personal hygiene at all times: wash and dry hands thoroughly, no nail polish, change gloves regularly, cover wounds, and refrain from working with food when ill.
  • Follow the program or sites Food Safety Plan, Anglicare’s Quality Food Service policy, and Food Standards of Australia & New Zealand when undertaking all food service duties.
  • Work as part of a team and take directions from Program Coordinator.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Patience, empathy and the willingness to help.
  • Relate well with people from a variety of different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work with compassion and in a non-judgmental and respectful manner
  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of client privacy and confidentiality
  • Make accurate and non-judgemental records of client interviews
