Ampcontrol is seeking a Laboratory Technical Officer to join our Hexham team on a part-time casual basis, working approximately 15 hours per week across Wednesday to Friday. Based in our Insulating Oil Laboratory, you'll support the testing and analysis of transformer oil and paper samples, helping our customers maintain the reliability and performance of critical power infrastructure.

What You'll Do
As a Laboratory Technical Officer, you'll be responsible for:
- Analysing insulating oil and transformer paper samples using established laboratory procedures
- Operating and maintaining scientific instrumentation and laboratory software
- Ensuring testing is completed accurately and within agreed turnaround times
- Maintaining quality assurance standards in a NATA-accredited environment
- Recording, interpreting and reporting laboratory data
- Responding to customer enquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across laboratory systems and processes
- Working collaboratively with the wider Hexham team to deliver exceptional customer service
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Certificate IV qualification (or higher) in Science, or be currently studying towards a science-related qualification
- Experience using scientific instrumentation and laboratory software
- Strong literacy, numeracy and communication skills
- General knowledge of safe laboratory practices
- Ability to follow standard analytical methods and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate results
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Highly regarded:
- Experience in a commercial laboratory environment
- Experience working within a NATA-accredited laboratory
- Knowledge of Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Experience analysing insulating oil samples
