Senior Protection Testing Technician

Join Ampcontrol's High Voltage Field Service team in Brisbane and play a critical role in delivering protection testing, commissioning and maintenance services across Australia's mining, utilities, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

As a Senior Protection Testing Technician, you'll work on a diverse range of projects involving HV protection relays, substation assets, electrical infrastructure upgrades, commissioning activities and preventative maintenance programs. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Protection Technician looking to further develop their technical expertise while working on complex and high-profile projects across multiple industries.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Protection Testing Technician, you'll be responsible for:

• Installing, testing and commissioning HV protection systems and associated equipment
• Performing routine testing, maintenance and fault-finding on HV protection relays and control systems
• Conducting protection relay testing using industry-standard testing equipment
• Preparing test plans, risk assessments, reports and commissioning documentation
• Diagnosing and resolving faults within protection systems and electrical infrastructure
• Providing technical support and guidance to customers and team members
• Assisting with project planning, coordination and execution activities
• Maintaining strong customer relationships through professional service delivery
• Ensuring all testing and commissioning activities comply with relevant standards, procedures and quality requirements
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, processes and technical documentation

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Electrical Trade Qualification
• Demonstrated experience working with HV protection systems and associated infrastructure
• Experience testing, commissioning and maintaining protection relays and control systems
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capabilities
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and protection drawings
• High Voltage Switching Operations certification
• Current LV Rescue and CPR qualifications
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and customer service
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to travel to customer sites across Queensland and interstate as required

Highly regarded:

• Experience using Omicron and/or Doble protection testing equipment
• Electrical Engineering Diploma or Degree
• Experience within mining, utilities, industrial or infrastructure sectors
• Project management experience or qualifications
• Forklift, EWP, Working at Heights and MR Licence qualifications
