Western Truck Repairs is a renowned brand in the heavy vehicle smash repair industry and a division of AMA Group – Heavy Motors. We deliver a full range of services, from minor accident repairs through to complete hand-finished rebuilds.
Located near Melbourne’s Ring Road and Westgate Bridge, our workshop is a busy, professional environment where skilled tradespeople including spray painters, panel beaters, mechanics, fabricators, chassis aligners, and electricians work together as one cohesive team. The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a 3rd Year Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Spray Painter to join the team at Western Truck Repairs.
In this role, you will work alongside experienced Spray Painters to further develop your skills and gain hands-on experience producing high-quality finishes on heavy vehicles.
Role Responsibilities
As a 3rd Year Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Spray Painter, you will learn and assist with:
- Cleaning, sanding, and masking vehicle surfaces in preparation for painting
- Mixing and matching paint colours to achieve accurate colour matching
- Using spray guns and specialised equipment to apply paint evenly and professionally
- Applying primers, sealers, basecoats, and clearcoats
- Blending new paint into existing finishes for seamless repairs
- Carrying out touch-ups and correcting surface imperfections
- Creating specialised finishes, textures, and effects where required
- Monitoring drying and curing processes to ensure quality results
- Inspecting completed work for defects or inconsistencies
- Following all workplace safety procedures and using PPE at all times

- Strong work ethic with a reliable and punctual attitude
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and develop your trade skills
- Strong attention to detail with a good eye for colour matching
- Genuine interest and commitment to building a long-term career in the heavy vehicle repair industry
- Positive attitude and ability to work well within a team environment
