Acquired Brain Injury Inpatient Rehabilitation Position

  • Fixed term role until end of July 2027

The Acquired Brain Injury Unit

Alfred Health's Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Rehabilitation Centre provides rehabilitation services for people with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injuries, and other causes of non-progressive brain injury. The service is comprised of a 42-bed inpatient rehabilitation service, a community rehabilitation service, and a 4-bed transitional living service.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic occupational therapist to provide high-quality assessment and management of patients within the Inpatient ABI Rehabilitation Service. Our ABI Service provides you with access to regular clinical supervision, opportunities for continued professional development, and being part of a friendly and supportive team.

At a Grade 2 level, Occupational Therapists are required to display autonomy of practice, whilst also demonstrating a commitment to patient-centred care, collaborative practice and evidence-based knowledge translation. There will also be opportunities for Grade 2 clinicians to be involved in various teaching/training and quality improvement activities across the Occupational Therapy Service, and will be responsible for the supervision and mentoring of Occupational Therapy staff, Allied Health Assistants and/or undergraduate students.

It is a requirement of all Alfred Health staff that they may be required to work across all Alfred Health site (The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital) including weekends and public holidays, based on clinical service demands.

Qualifications and Registrations Required

  • Occupational Therapy Qualification
  • Current full registration held with the relevant Professional Board of Australia (AHPRA) or equivalent
  • Member of OT Australia (or eligibility for membership) or equivalent
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence (unrestricted)

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum three years’ clinical experience in Occupational Therapy
  • Demonstrated best practice in patient assessment and intervention for patients with acquired brain injury and/or neurological conditions
  • Previous experience in an inpatient rehabilitation setting is highly desirable
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff and students is highly desirable
