We’re looking for a motivated and analytically minded Economist to join our Economic Regulation Division. In this role, you’ll provide expert economic and regulatory analysis that supports key decisions for the ActewAGL Joint Venture businesses—Evoenergy and ActewAGL Retail.

You’ll work across electricity and gas regulatory frameworks, contributing to the ACT’s energy transition through developing strategy and undertaking analysis for revenue determinations, pricing and tariff design, and regulatory policy reviews. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys technical analysis, problem solving, and shaping the future of the energy sector.

What You’ll Do

As an Economist, you will:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to inform regulatory, pricing, and policy submissions.
  • Build, maintain and refine economic and financial models in Excel.
  • Provide analytical insights to inform regulatory strategy, annual pricing and business planning.
  • Research economic, policy and regulatory developments to support strategic advice.
  • Draft compelling, evidence based regulatory submissions and consultation responses.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the Joint Venture businesses and liaise with regulators and government.
  • Assist with planning, managing and delivering components of key regulatory projects.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and papers on economic regulatory matters.
  • Support the coordination of data, modelling inputs and project materials for regulatory submissions.
  • Champion our core values — Lead with Safety, Better Every Day, and Build Tomorrow Together — by actively fostering a safe, inclusive and collaborative workplace.

What You’ll Bring

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Science/Maths or a related field.
  • Understanding of micro economic theory.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Experience applying quantitative, economic or econometric techniques.
  • High-level Excel skills and confidence working with complex models.
  • Ability to work independently, analyse complex information, and communicate findings clearly.

Desirable:

  • Experience presenting technical information to non technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with project management methods and tools.
  • Understanding of competition policy and economic regulation.
