Economic Regulatory Manager

  • $205,422 plus 15% superannuation
  • Ongoing, Full-Time
  • Based in Canberra City, with frequent travel to Greenway, Canberra 

Are you an economics or regulatory professional who thrives on solving complex challenges and influencing major business decisions? ActewAGL Joint Venture is seeking an Economic Regulatory Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping regulatory strategy across our electricity and gas networks.

About the role

Reporting to the Group Manager Regulatory Pricing and Analysis, the Economic Regulatory Manager provides expert strategic economic regulatory advice and quantitative analysis to support the Joint Venture, including the regulation of Evoenergy’s electricity and gas network and regulation of ActewAGL’s electricity retail business. 

The role contributes to effective business decision-making by applying economic, financial and analytical techniques within a legislative and regulatory framework.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory strategy and advice

  • Provide strategic leadership and advice on the regulated expenditure portfolio for Evoenergy’s electricity and gas network business, including regulatory risks, opportunities, and trade-offs
  • Assess implications for Evoenergy’s benchmarking, incentive schemes, and future regulatory allowances
  • Monitor regulatory decisions, policy changes, and industry precedents to inform business decisions across the Joint Venture

Economic analysis and modelling

  • Develop and apply quantitative modelling and scenario analysis 
  • Prepare economic analysis to support regulatory submissions and internal decision-making across the Joint Venture
  • Provide advice on regulatory information reporting requirements

Regulatory reviews and submissions

  • Lead components of regulatory strategy for Evoenergy electricity and gas network reviews
  • Plan and manage workstreams, including meetings and deliverables
  • Prepare regulatory submissions, proposals, and business cases
  • Review materials to identify gaps, risks, and ensure consistency of regulatory positions 

Stakeholder engagement

  • Manage relationships with regulators, government agencies, and industry stakeholders
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including senior management, Executive, and Board
  • Prepare and present regulatory materials for internal and external audiences

Project and team contribution

  • Manage consulting engagements supporting regulatory strategy
  • Mentor junior staff within the Economic Regulation Division
  • Contribute to a safe working environment and comply with organisational safety requirements

About you

You will bring: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Mathematics, or related discipline
  • Experience applying quantitative and economic techniques to problem solving
  • Proficiency in Excel for financial or economic modelling
  • Experience using standard business software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Understanding of economic regulation and competition policy
  • Understanding of microeconomic theory in a regulatory or commercial context 
  • Experience presenting complex information to stakeholders
