Senior Accountant

- Salary commencing from $146,085 plus 15% superannuation

ActewAGL is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to play a critical role in delivering high quality statutory financial reporting, technical accounting advice and treasury support for the ActewAGL Joint Venture.
This is a key finance role with exposure to complex accounting matters, external audit, treasury operations and stakeholder engagement across a large, regulated environment.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Group Reporting and Taxation, and Treasurer, the Senior Accountant will lead statutory financial reporting obligations for the Joint Venture and Partnerships. You will be a trusted technical accounting expert, contribute to audit and governance reporting, support taxation accounting and compliance activities and oversee selected treasury and system administration activities.
The role also provides leadership to assigned staff and supports continuous improvement across financial processes and controls.
Key responsibilities
- Lead preparation of year end statutory financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AAS) and JV policies
- Manage key aspects of the external audit process, including coordination of audit deliverables and control testing
- Provide technical accounting advice, including assessment and implementation of new accounting standards
- Prepare reporting for owners’ year end requirements and liaise with external auditors
- Lead assigned components of the month end and year end close, including balance sheet reconciliations
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalisation, depreciation, disposals and impairment support
- Oversee reconciliation and reporting of large scale feed in tariff (LFiT) cash accounts
- Support taxation accounting and compliance activities (income tax, GST, FBT, payroll tax)
- Contribute to governance reporting, including papers for Safety, Audit & Risk Committee meetings
- Perform treasury system administration, including banking platforms and the treasury management system
- Lead, coach and develop assigned staff in line with ActewAGL values and expectations
About you
You are a technically strong finance professional who enjoys working in a complex, highly regulated environment and partnering with stakeholders across the business.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting (or related discipline) and CA or CPA membership
- Proven experience in financial accounting and statutory reporting
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards
- Experience in taxation and/or treasury (highly regarded)
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines
- Strong analytical, problem solving and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience with ERP and EPM systems (Oracle experience highly regarded)
- A proactive, detail oriented and safety focused approach
