ActewAGL Finance is seeking a highly organised, collaborative, commercially focused individual to join their team as an Accountant for ActewAGL Retail. Reporting to the Financial Controller Retail, the Accountant position is primarily responsible for the completion of accounting duties within ActewAGL Retail (AAR) in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and policies.

The Accountant position is a dynamic role with many responsibilities including:

  • Mastering the general ledger by performing monthly accruals, processing journals, reviewing transactions and managing the administration of capitalisations.Own all balance sheet and bank reconciliations ensuring that all variances are investigated and resolved in a timely manner. 
  • Dedicated participation in the month end close process and producing Opex commentary for board reporting. Work towards presenting Opex results to the executive at monthly results meetings.
  •  Preparation of the monthly unread revenue models and expense accruals for the Gas business. Building knowledge of how the Gas market functions and the financial impact of volume and price variances to the gross margin.
  • Prepare monthly project accrual journals and provide insightful analysis into active projects.
  •  Analyse the monthly Opex management reports by reviewing and investigating variances to budget with the business units and providing key commentary.
  • Assist the Planning & Analysis team with input and analysis for the preparation of budgets and forecasts and other ad hoc tasks.
  • Assist with annual internal and external audits including year on year variance commentary for the Statutory Financial Report.
  • Owning recurring Retail financial processes such as Netting, CSO’s, Government rebates, APP and other regulatory reporting. Run with new ideas and work with the finance team to build new business streams. 
  • Proactively growing professional relationships across the business and the Joint Venture.

  •  Current knowledge of accounting standard and demonstrated work experience in accounting is required.
  • Experience with computerised management accounting and financial information systems, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite. Experience in the use of Oracle Financials, TM1 and Power BI would be considered an advantage but not essential.
