Remote Area Management Team Leader
- Several casual positions available in remote NSW, SA, NT, WA & QLD.
- $55.81 per hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading), plus superannuation.

About the role
As a Remote Area Management Team Leader, you will oversee Census collection in various remote locations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, regional towns, farming properties, mining camps, roadhouses, and national parks. With the support of your manager, you will lead a small team of up to four team members to successfully complete Census activities.
You’ll need to be comfortable using a mobile phone and tablet for tasks like data entry, scanning documents, writing, and sending emails. You’ll also engage with various stakeholders to promote and support the Census in your area. Daily quality checks will be part of your role to ensure forms are filled out correctly, and you’ll monitor your team’s progress.
As a Remote Area Management Team Leader, you will:
- Engage with members of the community to raise awareness of the Census.
- Lead and manage a small team.
- Recruit and train field staff in various locations, including remote towns, farming properties, roadhouses, caravan parks, hotels, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Manage Census collection in your area, including supporting staff to conduct interviews.
- Conduct interviews and deliver Census forms to dwellings.
- Use tools such as maps and mobile apps to allocate work and report on progress.
- Review and finalise Remote Area Management Team plans.
- Undertake quality assurance processes including reviews of forms with the help of field staff.
- Securely manage all recruitment, payroll, WHS, and Census forms.
- Ensure the security of all electronic devices.
- Return completed forms to the ABS.
This role requires you to have an understanding of, and ability to communicate with, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

- Experience working within a small team and following instructions and procedures.
- Proven ability to lead or manage a small team.
- Capability to work independently and apply training and procedures.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working in remote and regional areas of Australia.
- Ability to read and navigate maps.
- Attention to detail when working in high volume environments with tight deadlines.
- Ability to use electronic devices such as mobile phones and tablets.
