A.B. Paterson College is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Prep – Year 12 Music Teacher with Choral Experience to join our thriving College community. This full‑time position commences at the start of Term 2, 2026, and continues until the end of Term 2, 2027.
The successful candidate will inspire students across all year levels through high‑quality music education, lead engaging choral programs, and contribute to the College’s vibrant performing arts culture.
We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about Music and committed to delivering engaging, curriculum‑aligned learning experiences that foster musical growth, creativity, and confidence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in teaching across Prep to Year 12, with the ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs and create rich, sequential learning opportunities.
Strong skills in choral direction are essential, including the ability to develop ensembles, nurture vocal technique, and prepare students for performances and College events. A collaborative, student‑centred approach, along with a commitment to ongoing professional growth, will be highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum‑aligned Music lessons across Prep to Year 12 that develop musicianship, performance skills, and an appreciation for the arts.
- Support choral programs, including directing choirs, selecting suitable repertoire, preparing students for performances, and fostering strong vocal and ensemble skills.
- Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessment strategies, providing meaningful feedback to support individual learning and growth.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well‑managed learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and respect, using proactive behaviour‑support strategies.
- Contribute to College life and the Performing Arts program by supporting co‑curricular activities, participating in rehearsals and events, and collaborating with faculty colleagues to maintain a culture of excellence.
- Collaborate effectively within the Music and Performing Arts Faculty, sharing resources, engaging in reflective practice, and contributing to a culture of innovation and professional excellence.

What We’re Looking For:
- A highly skilled Music educator with demonstrated experience in choral direction, including the ability to lead choirs, develop vocal technique, select appropriate repertoire, and prepare students for performances, events, and competitions.
- An educator who is familiar with, or willing to embrace, the Teaching for Understanding (TFU) framework developed by Harvard Graduate School of Education.
- A strong commitment to student wellbeing and academic excellence
- A collaborative team member who contributes positively to College life
- Someone who embraces innovation and continuous improvement in teaching practice
- A strong background and sound knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and QCAA syllabus
- Up-to-date skills in the use of IT and other digital classroom resources
- Current CPR and First Aid training, or willingness to obtain
- Current Teacher Registration is a requirement of this position
