Title: Associate Scientist I
Location: North Chicago, IL
Duration: 12 Months | 100% Onsite
Shifts: Monday–Friday (8 hrs between 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM); Saturdays 1–2 times/month (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Position Overview
The Associate Scientist I will support reagent manufacturing activities and conduct investigations related to internal nonconformances and customer complaints. The role involves assisting with the development and improvement of reagent manufacturing processes and products. This position requires strong problem-solving and analytical skills, the ability to perform under pressure to meet project deadlines, and effective collaboration within cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design experiments and testing schemes, analyze data, and prepare protocols, reports, and presentations for cross-functional teams.
- Conduct investigations on nonconformances and customer complaints related to reagents.
- Support reagent manufacturing process improvements and product enhancements.
- Perform testing of new Transfusion Medicine products in a laboratory environment; data generated will be submitted to the FDA for approval.
- Work 75% in the laboratory (assay and instrument testing) and 25% on documentation and reporting.
- Execute studies in accordance with protocols and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
- 1–2 years of relevant laboratory experience (entry-level candidates will be considered).
- Knowledge of GMP, ISO, and FDA regulations and audits preferred.
- Familiarity with process and test method validations.
- Experience with Abbott instruments and quality systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, adaptability, documentation skills, and ability to learn quickly.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

- Work Schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 8 hours between 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
- Saturdays (1–2 times per month): 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM.
- Schedule is provided two weeks in advance. Candidates must be flexible to accommodate shift variations.
