Job Summary
The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for driving quality improvement and corrective actions for components sourced from external suppliers. This role provides technical and quality expertise in supplier selection, component qualification, and ongoing supplier performance management. The SQE partners cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to ensure materials meet quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements within a regulated quality system environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and qualify new suppliers based on technical capability, quality systems, and manufacturing processes
- Provide technical support during supplier onboarding and component introduction
- Develop, maintain, and update incoming inspection procedures; train inspection personnel accordingly
- Create or source inspection tools, fixtures, and test equipment as needed
- Assist in developing component specifications and acceptance criteria
- Generate qualification and test protocols; monitor testing and issue qualification reports
- Approve components for use in products based on quality and reliability analysis
- Analyze incoming material defects, manage dispositions, and drive supplier corrective actions (CAPA)
- Communicate quality issues, corrective actions, and expectations clearly with suppliers
- Review new design specifications and provide feedback on component quality, reliability, and manufacturability
- Investigate supplier-related field failures and develop corrective action plans
- Monitor supplier performance metrics, manufacturing yield issues, and change notifications
- Ensure compliance with corporate, divisional, and regulatory quality system requirements
- Lead or support moderate-scope quality projects and provide guidance to junior team members
Daily Activities & Interactions
- Review and process Supplier Change Notifications (SCNs)
- Manage and track supplier corrective actions
- Communicate with suppliers on quality issues and performance expectations
- Support engineering and manufacturing projects related to component quality
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related scientific field
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant supplier quality or manufacturing quality experience
- Strong understanding of quality systems and regulatory compliance
- Experience with CAPA processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience working with SAP MD or similar ERP systems
- Background in regulated industries (medical devices, electronics, manufacturing)
Experience & Education Alternatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 9+ years of related experience
- OR Master’s degree with 0–2 years of related experience
