The Role: WHS Advisor

The Work Health & Safety (WHS) Advisor supports the organisation’s infrastructure program by embedding WHS practices across project activities. The role monitors safety performance, supports contractor compliance, and helps ensure consistent implementation of safety systems and critical controls across construction sites.

The WHS Advisor also supports compliance with legislative requirements and the organisations safety management framework, while promotions a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Implementation & Assurance

• Support the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) across all project sites.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety observations to verify compliance with safety requirements.
• Monitor adherence to Safe Work Method Statements.
• Assist in the implementation and verification of critical risk controls.

Contractor Safety Management

• Support onboarding and verification of contractor safety documentation and competencies.
• Monitor contractor compliance with WHS obligations, procedures and site-specific requirements.
• Work closely with delivery partners to address safety issues and drive continuous improvement.

Incident Management & Reporting

• Assist in the investigation of incidents, near misses and hazards.
• Ensure timely and accurate incident reporting and documentation.
• Track and monitor corrective actions to ensure effective close-out.

Safety Systems & Engagement

• Promote a strong safety culture through visible field presence and proactive workforce engagement.
• Support delivery teams in embedding ‘safety-first’ behaviours and accountability.

Compliance & Governance

• Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and internal policies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records and documentation.

What You’ll Bring

• Strong attention to detail and risk awareness.
• Ability to influence safe behaviours across diverse teams.
• Practical hands-on approach with a strong field presence.
• Ability to work autonomously while supporting broader program objectives.

Skills, experience & qualifications

• 3–5+ years’ experience in a construction or infrastructure safety role.
• Strong understanding of WHS legislation and safety management systems.
• Experience conducting site inspections, audits and working in contractor-led environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with both office based and field teams.
• Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum requirement) and a current White Card.
• Experience in telecommunications, utilities or linear infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
• Exposure to ISO-aligned systems, including ISO 45001, is highly regarded.
• Australian Citizen is required.
