The Role

AARNet is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Construction Supervisor to oversee the construction of Optical Fibre and Telecommunication civil works projects. This position would suit person/s with a knowledge of Telecommunication Infrastructure wanting to progress their career into a frontline management role with a reputable telco carrier. The Construction Supervisor will work with Project Managers to deliver optical fibre builds ranging from short metropolitan fibre tails, through to significant regional fibre builds. The role may require some travel, including to regional and remote locations.

 This is a 12 month maximum term position

Responsibilities

1. Contractor Management

• Manage the day to day work of our construction sub-contractors.
• Ensuring Telecommunication Pit, Pipe and Cabling infrastructure is installed to defined standards.
• Manage the performance of suppliers related to assigned projects, such delivery of cable, pits etc. to installers.

 2. Project Management

• Assist in the development of project plans for large projects, using the AARNet Project Management Framework and manage delivery in accordance with those plans.
• Act as a point of contact for specific project implementations, managing expectations and communication with customers and other stakeholders.

 3. Land Access Management

• Mange land access activities in accordance with the Telecommunications Act and ACMA guidelines.
• Develop an awareness and manage environmental, cultural and heritage constraints.
• Liaise with land owners, local councils and utilities as required to coordinate land access approvals and construction activity.
• Coordinate the activities of land access consultants for complex jobs.

 4. Business Development  

• Assist in the preparation of proposals and quotations as required.

 5. Documentation

• Assist in the development of documented construction specifications and methods
• Ensure adequate hand-over documentation is provided at the completion of each project
• Complete Quality Assurance and WHS Audits on a regular basis to ensure continued improvement and compliance.

Expertise, experience & qualifications

• Australian Resident and Drivers licence are essential
• Construction Induction (White Card) and a knowledge of WHS principles
• A knowledge and understanding of small and large optical fibre construction methodologies
• A passion for Project Management, building and delivering construction projects
• Knowledge of Telstra duct network principles and processes
• First Aid and Remote First Aid is highly regarded
• The ability to work unsupervised and represent AARNet in a professional manner 
• Experience or willing to learn the Telecommunications Act and related procedures for obtaining Land Access for fibre builds.
• Able to network positive outcomes with a variety of stakeholders, including local councils, utilities, community groups and land owners.
• Developing for-construction and as-built documentation (CAD, Visio, GIS).
