The Role: Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator supports the delivery of the company’s infrastructure program by embedding strong Work Health & Safety (WHS) practices across all project activities. The role is responsible for monitoring safety performance, supporting contractor compliance, and driving consistent implementation of safety systems, procedures and critical controls across multiple construction sites.

The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring that all work is delivered safely, in accordance with legislative requirements and the companies safety management framework, while fostering a proactive and positive safety culture across the program.

Key Responsibilities include:

Safety Implementation & Assurance

  • Support the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) across all project sites.
  • Assist in the implementation and verification of critical risk controls2.

Contractor Safety Management.

  • Support onboarding and verification of contractor safety documentation and competencies.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with WHS obligations, procedures and site-specific requirements.
  • Work closely with delivery partners to address safety issues and drive continuous improvement.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Assist in the investigation of incidents, near misses and hazards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate incident reporting and documentation.
  • Track and monitor corrective actions to ensure effective close-out.

Safety Systems & Engagement.

  • Support delivery teams in embedding “safety-first” behaviours and accountability.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and internal policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records and documentation.
  • Support internal and external audits and assurance activities.
  • Contribute to safety reporting and performance metrics (e.g. TRIFR, LTIFR)

Key Relationships

  • Project Managers and Delivery Teams.
  • Contractors and Subcontractors.
  • Safety Manager and HSEQ team.
  • Commercial and Planning teams.  

Expertise, experience & qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in a construction or infrastructure safety admin or Coordinators role.
  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation and safety management systems.
  • Experience working in contractor-driven environments.

Desirable

  • Experience in telecommunications, utilities or linear infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to ISO-aligned systems (e.g. ISO 45001) and audit requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with field teams.

Qualifications

  • Current White Card.
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum requirement)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. safety, construction, engineering) – desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail and risk awareness.
  • Ability to work autonomously while supporting broader program objectives.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to safety outcomes.
  • Intermediate level and above for Microsoft Office Suite of Software. Success Measures
  • Reduction in incidents and improved TRIFR performance.
  • High levels of contractor safety compliance across project sites.
  • Timely closure of incidents and corrective actions.
  • Positive feedback from site teams and stakeholders.
  • Consistent implementation of critical safety controls.
