The Role: Atlassian Cloud Administrator

The Atlassian Cloud Administrator plays a key role in the administration, governance, optimisation and security of AARNet’s Atlassian Cloud environment, with a strong focus on Jira and Jira Service Management.

This role is responsible for ensuring Jira is configured securely, managed consistently and aligned to business, delivery, operational and security requirements. 

A key focus of the role is maintaining a secure and well controlled Atlassian Cloud environment, including identity and access management, permissions, auditability, configuration standards, integration controls and ongoing platform improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Atlassian Cloud Administration 

  • Administer and optimise Jira, Jira Service Management and related Atlassian Cloud tools.
  • Manage Atlassian Cloud configuration, product settings, user access, groups, permissions, schemes and global administration controls.
  • Act as the primary contact for Atlassian Cloud product communications between Atlassian, internal teams and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain governance across Jira configuration to ensure workflows, fields, screens, schemes and permissions remain controlled, purposeful and supportable.
  • Monitor Atlassian Cloud usage, product health, audit logs, security alerts and administrative changes.

Jira Configuration and Governance

  • Configure Jira projects, workflows, dashboards and automation rules.
  • Support Jira across project delivery, service management and reporting.
  • Maintain consistent Jira configuration to improve usability and protect platform integrity.
  • Work with business, operational and security teams to deliver practical Jira solutions.

Security and Access Management

  • Implement and maintain Atlassian Cloud security controls aligned to organisational policies and security standards.
  • Manage user access, groups, roles, permission schemes and product access using a least privilege approach.
  • Monitor audit logs, access changes, configuration changes and security events across the Atlassian Cloud environment.
  • Maintain secure administration practices for apps, integrations, automation rules, API tokens and third-party connections. Confluence and Other Atlassian Tools.
  • Support administration of Confluence and other Atlassian Cloud tools where required.
  • Configure Confluence spaces, templates, permissions and content structures to support secure documentation and knowledge management.

Automation and Integration

  • Develop and maintain Jira automation, Atlassian Cloud integrations and API based solutions to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Use Atlassian REST APIs and appropriate scripting approaches to supportcontrolled automation and reporting. Technical Support and Training.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to users across Jira, Jira Service Management and related Atlassian Cloud tools.
  • Troubleshoot configuration, workflow, access, automation and integration issues.

Skills, experience & qualifications:

  • Hands on experience administering Atlassian Cloud, particularly Jira and Jira Service Management.
  • Strong understanding of Jira configuration, including workflows, schemes, permissions, fields, screens, boards, dashboards and automation.
  • Experience managing Atlassian Cloud security controls, user access, groups, roles, permissions and audit logs.
  • Experience with Atlassian Cloud apps, integrations, APIs and automation.
  • Strong understanding of Jira governance, configuration control and platform administration standards.
  • Experience supporting Jira for project delivery, IT service management, operational workflows and reporting.
  • Experience with Confluence and other Atlassian tools is highly regarded.
