Candidate FAQ’s

What does LiveHire do?
LiveHire offers an award-winning, cloud-based Talent Acquisition & Engagement Platform. It dramatically accelerates the end-to-end hiring process through unique capabilities in candidate sourcing & engagement, revolutionising the candidate experience and enabling businesses to thrive with talent on demand.

How do I apply for a role with LiveHire?
We have a great Help for Talent section on our website that can assist with creating a profile, joining Talent Communities and applying for roles.

Can I refer someone to LiveHire?
We love referrals! Referred talent are engaged with your employer brand, they reduce your time and cost to hire and tend to stay in the business for longer. It’s a no-brainer right! Visit us here to refer someone to LiveHire!

What does LiveHire look for in a candidate?
We are looking for curious, empathetic and client-centric candidates who are motivated by meaningful work and share our purpose of empowering the flow of the world’s talent. We love to meet people who resonate and align with our values, have a positive outlook, that are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive working in an ever-evolving and fast-paced business.

What does the recruitment process look like at LiveHire?
After you’ve built a strong profile (we’re talking 80% plus) and discussed the details of the position with our Talent Acquisition team, our recruitment process usually goes as follows*:

– 1st round – Technical interview (estimated time: 1 hour)
– Online cognitive assessment (estimated time: 45 min)
– Case Study (estimated time: 1 hour)
– 2nd round – Values Interview (estimated time: 2 hours)
– Reference check
– Police Checks

*Process will vary depending on the position you’ve applied for.

What should I wear to an Interview?
Whatever feels right! If we had to describe our style it would probably be “not the stuffy corporate thing”. We believe everyone should be in a position to express themselves and creativity is always encouraged. We also realise it’s impossible to focus on changing the world if your feet are aching from uncomfortable shoes!

What should I bring?
At LiveHire, our environment is virtually paper-free! All relevant documents should already be attached to your LiveHire profile (so if they’re not, start attaching!), so no need to bring extra. The case study is the only round where you’ll need your laptop and supporting information.

When you’ve completed the Case Study, we’ll also ask you to upload your ID and proof of working rights (if necessary) to your LiveHire profile but again, it’s all online.

We also really like doughnuts, so if you have any of them lying around at home…

How do we communicate?
The INBOX section in your LiveHire profile is the best way to communicate with us. Our platform allows every team member in the process access to your message, so we’re able to stay up to date with your application. As you’d probably already know, you’ll receive an SMS as well as an INBOX message when we contact you, and yes, we also get one too. This enables us to always stay connected.

How early should I get there?
Like any meeting or appointment, arrive five or so minutes before the interview. We don’t want you to have to wait around for too long beforehand.

When will I hear back?
LiveHire’s approach is to keep candidates involved in all aspects of the interview process. Because of this, we shouldn’t take more than five business days to follow-up with a final answer. However, if you haven’t heard from us, send us a friendly follow-up message through your LiveHire profile INBOX.

What is your Development culture?
Hopefully, this answers the question… The Joel Test is a little dated now so here are the answers to a 2017 update from Dale Myers…

1. Are all builds handled automatically by a Continuous Integration server?
Yes, at the moment, our CI server of choice is TeamCity. Our CI environment will run builds on different branches and when pull requests are initiated.

2. Do you make and use daily builds?
Yes, many times per day! We continuously & automatically build & deploy our master branch commits throughout the day to our development environment, using TeamCity & Octopus Deploy.

3. Do you use an issue tracker?
Yes, we primarily use a combination of VSTS and Zendesk. We are working towards a model where commits, branches and PRs can be connected to cards being tracked in VSTS.

4. Do you fix bugs before writing new code?
No, we move fast, and on some occasions, that means that low priority bugs don’t get fixed immediately. Starting from this quarter, however, we are prioritising more time to fix bugs, refactor and increase our level of quality.

5. Do you have an up-to-date schedule?
Yes, we work in 2-week sprints and use sprint planning, roadmaps and various planning tools to keep us on track. It’s something where we are continuously improving.

6. Do you have up to date information on your products performance and usage?
Yes, in most cases we do have basic information available. We have centralised logging where quite a bit of data is logged. We also have New Relic and utilise various tools when we’re digging deep into performance issues.

7. Do you use the best tools money can buy?
Yes, all developers are kitted out with pretty beefy laptops and a large, external monitor.

8. Do you have a comprehensive test plan?
No, testing is something we’re working on improving. We have many unit tests, functional tests and integration tests, but we have set a high bar for ourselves that we’re moving towards where we can increase our test coverage to help make our product even more awesome!

9. Do you have dedicated UI and UX designers?
Yes, and they rock! Have you seen screenshots of our product yet?

10. Does all code go through code review?
Some teams review all code, some do not. This is something that we’re looking to spread as a habit across all development teams.

11. Do you have coding standards?
Not yet, we have just formed a team that is dedicated to bringing this into reality, stay tuned!

12. Are new employees given training?
Yes, but it’s something that needs improving. Our product is complicated, and we have lots of code, and devs who are new to the recruitment domain need lots of contexts explained to them! We treat our training as an iterative approach, as developers are exposed to more parts of the codebase, we aim to train and knowledge share as we go.
